Live Music Returns to The Roxy in New York

Live Music Lives at the Roxy

Last week, we ventured into New York City for the kids’ spring break and had a wonderful time returning to some of our favorite spots and exploring some new ones. I can safely say, yes, things are returning to normal, even in a place that was rocked as hard as The City has been. While we enjoyed the signs of Spring on full display in the parks and on curbsides, it was the warmth and gratitude we felt from the people throughout The City that was especially clear and invigorating. Things are definitely looking up and people are feelin’ it.

We decided to stay at The Roxy Hotel Tribeca, a stylish boutique hotel on 6th Avenue in Tribeca that is decked out top-to-bottom in a smooth jazz vibe reminiscent of the 1950s. Each room is complete with a TEAC turntable and Marshall speaker with a satisfying selection of vinyl to choose from. Additional details such as a Tivoli clock radio, Smeg refrigerator, and curved walls with art-deco wallpaper and light switches created from repurposed synthesizer knobs completed the cool, harmonious mood.

But most exciting was the opportunity to relax in the hotel lobby, sipping cocktails and nibbling snacks from in-house Oyster Bar and listening to LIVE JAZZ! I’m no enthusiast; I’d say I enjoy a dozen or so Jazz performances in the average year. But I had no idea how much my soul missed the energy and the atmosphere!

The three musicians remained masked and no microphones were seen at any point, but the live show satisfied a void I didn’t realize I had and left me feeling energized and eager about the comeback of live performances sure to come this year.

In addition to live music in the Lobby, The Roxy Hotel Tribeca also has Django, described as a downstairs den for dinner, cocktails and live jazz. Unfortunately, it was closed the nights we were there but it may just be worth returning for. Rumor has it, you may feel as though you’ve been transported to a Paris wine cave. I’m in!

At the time this post goes live, Connecticut is preparing to loosen restrictions that will support the return of live music in both indoor and outdoor venues.
