Danger Is My Business

Most people know me by my given name, Charlie.

I’ve earned other names, too. Badges of honor, if you will. When you’re good at your job cool nicknames kind of come with the territory.

Like Staff Sergeant Hurley™.

Or High Priestess of the Loft.

Me? I specialize in security. Ever vigilant, I work in the shadows and keep Crescendo Music Loft and the marina safe.

You may have seen me. But probably not. That’s ok. I’m used to it.

But rest assured: I’ve seen you.

Even if you did notice me, I’m confident I ignored you, maybe even just walked away.

It’s not that I’m antisocial or anything. I’ve just trained myself not to be distracted.

Laser focused.

At. All. Times.

So much danger. So many threats.

And you’re all oblivious. How you people manage to take care of yourselves is beyond me.

My eyes and ears close to the ground at all times. I identify threats, confront them, and neutralize them.

Is it messy? Sometimes.

Does it bother me? Not at all.

I’ll grant you that sometimes it’s not pretty. But it’s necessary.

I’m good at it, and it’s exhilarating.

I take pride in my work. Heck, often I’ll provide examples of my work to the “Powers That Be” to prove my worth.

But do I ever get a performance review?

An “attaboy, Charlie”?

No.

But that’s okay. I’ll just keep doing what I do.

Gotta put food on the table, right?

So you all just go about your business. Don’t mind me. It’s ok. Really.

Really really.

Danger is my business. And business is good.

Signed,

Charlie

aka

Dr. Slaughterhouse
